High dynamic of a drive can be achieved by direct control algorithms. A direct Controller is a switching controller that chooses directly the next switching events according to the aim of control. It works without a traditional (linear) controller and also without a pulse width modulator.
In this research project the focus is on parameter adaptation and identification to improve the stator flux observer of the Direct Mean Torque Control algorithm and the field weakening range of an induction machine controlled by a direct control algorithm. The research project comprises the simulation of the whole drive system and the improvement of an existing experimental drive plant. With this plant the control algorithms are implemented and tested.
Direct Mean Torque Control of an induction motor

Status: finished by PhD Thesis in 1999
A new highly dynamic direct torque control algorithms of an induction motor with voltage source inverter was developed. The next two inverter switching events are calculated by the Direct Mean Torque Control algorithm in a way that the mean torque is exactly of the desired value. The inverter works with constant switching frequency.
Highly dynamic asynchronous feed drive

Status: finished by PhD Thesis in 1994
A speed control for an induction motor which is fed by a voltage source inverter of 8 kHz switching frequency shall be developed by using a signal processor. Thereby better characteristics at shock loads should be reached. Besides the classical cascade-control structure a state variable feedback controller is analysed and realised. The sin/cos – position sensor is evaluated carefully and precision is enhanced by using a correction table for the sensor.
