Power electronic systems convert electrical energy by means of fast switching semiconductors. Our research deals with the interaction of power electronic converters with the electrical grid as well as the control of electrical machines. Both are important research fields for ensuring a stable and sustainable energy supply.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerd Griepentrog

"Power electronics is very versatile, comparable to an electrical engineering decathlon. For the successful design of a power electronic converter, various areas of electrical engineering must be taken into account. Ultimately, it is fascinating to see how large amounts of electrical energy can be converted efficiently and dynamically by the converter and the associated software. Our aim is to optimize the interactions between power electronic systems and the electrical grid in order to enable the connection of renewable energies and the use of controlled electric drives on a large scale."
