In recent years, quite a few different control strategies for wind turbines have been developed. Many advantages and disadvantages of these control strategies can be found in the literature, but unfortunately they are partially not consistent or are valid only for one type of wind turbine working at very distinct site conditions.
In this study the main groups of control strategies are compared with one standardised approach. In order to guarantee the same conditions for all control strategies, this comparison has to be done on with numerical simulation. Because the differences of the control strategies show up mainly in their transient behaviour, a dynamic excitation from the wind is necessary in the simulation, too. The current focus is on the influence of control strategies on the enrgy capture as a function of different machine and site parameters.
