Three phase thyristor based soft starters are hybrid switching devices that evolved to an important component for induction motor startup in the last decades. With these devices torque and current peaks can be reduced while starting induction motors. Thereby the principle software structure for firing the thyristors in the soft starter haven’t changed over time, but it was enhanced with additional features like a current or torque limited startup.
Nowadays the developement of new features is limited by the principal software structure. Here a new method of firing the thyristores could bring a better performance and the ability to add new features. This new method will be developed, investigated, implemented, tested and assessed in this research project.
This research project will be done at OTH Amberg-Weiden within a cooperative dissertation project with TU Darmstadt. Industrial partner is the Siemens AG.
